Sorry for the delay folks.

BSG Cast Member to Play Deathstroke on Smallville

Monday, October 4th, 2010 at 4:43 pm Category: DC, Superman, Television

I just read over at IGN that Michael Hogan who played Colonel Tigh on Battlestar Galactica will be playing Deathstroke this season on Smallville. For those of you that don’t know who Deathstroke is, he is a mercenary. A normal human uses only 10% of their brain capacity, while Deathstroke uses 90%. All in all I’m pretty excited for it, I mean look! He already has the eyepatch look down! You can read the original article over at IGN.

Cool stuff for this week

Cool stuff to check out for this week, courtesy of Big Shiny Robot and our in store reviewer.
Check them out at
Big Shiny Robot

Superman #700

ITS A BIRD! ITS A PLANE! ITS SUPERMAN #700! Yeah yeah I know that was cheesy but can ya blame me? I am so excited for this. Not only does it mark the end of the last couple of year of New Krypton story, which I liked but thought it lasted way too long. It also marks the beginning of J. Michael Straczynski’s run on the book. This is something I’ve been excited about for quite a while. From how he has spoken about the character he seems like he has a good grasp of how Superman should be written. If you want a little something extra to prove how JMS has been “knocking out of the park” over at DC, track down Brave and the Bold #33. It was a story that featured Wonder Woman, Zatanna, and Batgirl. There is also a third story set in Superman’s past written by the man who killed Superman, Dan Jurgens!

Sea Bear and Grizzly Shark

A shark that hunts on land? A grizzly bear that hunts at sea? With a tagline like “THEY GOT MIXED UP” how can you not go wrong with a book like this. This book just looks like all sorts of fun and its brought to you by Jason Howard and local Utah artist Ryan Ottley. Ottley is best known for his work on the blockbuster Invincible series also from Image Comics. I’m going to go so far as to say if you don’t pick this up then you are not a fan of fun!

As always my picks and everything on the following list can be picked up or ordered from Dr Volts Comics! So get your pen and paper and make your pull lists because here are the books that come out this week!

New weekly reviews

Hey everyone, We are finally going to start the weekly reviews for the store. I want to thank Jeramiah and the folks at Big Shiny Robot for making and hosting these reviews. So here we go.

New Avengers #1

When this book was first solicited my first thought was, “We have 3 ongoing Avengers books coming out before this. Why do we need another and why do they have to restart New Avengers with a new #1?” Well I had a chance to read this last week and oh my stars was I bitching for no reason! This book is fun and gets into the super-heroing action right away as Luke brings the team together and something funky is going on with the former and current sorcerer supremes. As a first issue this has been my favorite of the recent influx of Avengers books! Go get this I say!

Atlas #2

If you haven’t been reading Agents of Atlas over the last few years then you’ve been missing out on a real treat. In my opinion you can’t go wrong with a book that has a killer robot and gorilla with machine guns! And with the restart of this series in the age of heroics writer Jeff Parker has gone and made 3D Man a character that I actually care about. So if you like fun then give this book a try. And if you’re already reading it then you are doing something right in life!

Charity auction

Thanks to everyone who bought items online and in store. We managed to raise a lot of money for Jake to pay off his medical bills. And remember we still have some of the specialty items left in store if you want to help out still.
