movie time

I finally saw G.I Joe over the weekend.

It was pretty much what I expected of it. A lot of fighting, some good special effects. Just make sure you turn off your brain before you go into the theater, and as a favor to all of us don't take it to seriously.

Free comics and Star Trek

I know its a little late for the Free Comic Day review, but here it goes.

We had so many people come into the shop that it was standing room only, and you had to shuffle to get anywhere. I think everyone loved the comics on display, especially the new DC Blackest Night. I know this because we ran out of almost everything in about 2 hours. Next year I order more. I want to thank everyone who came out to see us, most of all the new people who used this as their first intro into the greater comic world. We hope that everyone had fun and we expect to see you come in soon.

Now as for Star Trek

As usual for a Star Trek movie the actual science is murky and there are a couple of plot holes,
But I coudn't care less. This was the most enjoyable release from the franchise in years. Everything from young Kirk and Spock to the return of Nimoy to the films just made me happy. There was enough action and drama to make this movie fly bye. I just hope that we can get more films based on the new Star Trek reality.

As always, enjoy your day

battlestar galactica

Finally watched the last episode of battlestar. I enjoyed it but I did feed that most of the Caprica flashbacks felt like fillers to pad out the episode. I am not going to go into a long rant about what I felt everything in the series really signified so don't worry about that. I did feel that the ending was fairly abrubt. Look they found Earth, lets give up all our technology and live on the land with the nice primitive peoples. They only thing I really would like an answer to is what ever happened to the cylons that went off in the base ship.

I could watch a quick mini-series about that.

Watchmen

I know this review is a little late, but I'm lazy.

I thought the movie was incredible. It stayed true to the story in the book but changed enough to make it work in the theater. After all, would an alien really have worked at the end? Even though it was almost 3 hours I was never bored or temped to start dozing like with other movies that length.
The only downside I see is that if your not familiar with the book you won't enjoy as much as us comic geeks, and the hard R rating and run length will hurt it in the box office.
I can't wait for the extended DVD with the extra scenes and the Black Freighter story.

I am posting a link here to a newsarama story about the Planet Karen webcomic. It is a great comic and and horrible situation, so read some of the comic and donate what you can.

Coraline

A little late for the movie review but here it goes.

See it!

Actually that was fairly easy.

This is a great film and better adaptation than most from a comic story. I highly recommend you see it in 3D if you can, it adds a little something extra to the experience.

Oh and read the book too.

TV and Comic Review

Joss Whedon's Dollhouse
I enjoyed the first episode immensely. The premise of customizing the memories and skills of people to fit different situations is a great premise. The story and action in the show draw you in and make you believe in the characters. I also think Eliza Dushku does an excellent job portraying the different personalities in the show. The show also brings to mind another series from a few years back call La Femme Nikita. I believe that fans of that show will also appreciate Dollhouse.

R.E.B.E.L.S.
A new series from DC comics.
by Tony Bedard and Andy Clarke
A new series that contiues the characters from the L.E.G.I.O.N. books. The first issue starts you off in the middle of the action and never lets up. You can read this story without any background, but if you want a little more backstory I would read some of the old L.E.G.I.O.N. books as well as the Supergirl and the Legions stories that DC put out. I highly recomend this book to everyone.

Holiday update

We will be open on Monday for Presidents day, and there will be no shipment delay.

Review

Back again. Sorry for the wait. I have been reading Girl genius by Phil and Kaja Foglio. It is a collection of steampunk adventures revolving around the main character, Agatha Clay. I must recommend this book to anyone who likes a good adventure story mixed in with some humor.

Comic Report

Alright here we go.
First up is Wolverine. If you haven't been reading the old man logan storyline, well I'm sorry for you. Pick it up. You will not regret it, it is the best wolverine story in years.

Next, Devils Panties vol. 2
This is the newest book from Jennie Breeden. It is a wonderfull webcomic that details some of her adventures in real life, mixed in with some great story ideas. This book is the long overdue second collection of her online strips.

Last for today is Incognito. Now I know if you follow any of the online blogs you will have already heard about this book, but I am going to put my two cents in.
Coming from the team that brought you Criminal (also a must read book), comes a look at an amoral superhero story in a crime noir setting. for more I must insist you come in and take a look at the comic

Ok, thats it, I'm all done ranting. You can go home now
